Bass Unlimited Foundation, in conjunction with the INDNR, is seeking volunteers to help build fish habitat structures for Cecil M Hardin Lake, aka “Racoon Lake”. This project is part of the ongoing efforts of Bass Unlimited Foundations to fulfill its mission to “Provide resources for conservation, preservation, and restoration of fish populations in public accessible waters for anglers of today and for future generations”. It is also a continuation of the INDNR Reservoir Aquatic Habitat Enhancement Program at this reservoir.
Volunteers will have the opportunity to help build Porcupine and Porcupine Jr. Crib structures from pre-cut hardwood lumber. The goal is to have between 100 and 200 structures built by the end of the day.
The volunteer work day will be November 4th, 2017 at 9:00am EST. and we will meet at the state park office. This announcement will be the 1st of other announcements regarding this habitat build on our website and Facebook page. We want to make this announcement to make all potential volunteers aware of this project. The size of this project means we need your volunteer participation.
We are working to gather as many volunteers as possible for this project in the hopes that by doing so we can be confident in doing larger projects in the near future. Please set aside this day and plan on participating in this habitat build on November 4th. Volunteers are encouraged to dress appropriately for working outside and to bring items such as protective eyewear, protective gloves, and cordless drills. Bass Unlimited Foundation will supply tea and a picnic style lunch to all the volunteers. This will be an informal event, where people can come and go as they need. Even if people can only help out for an hour we would be happy to have them participate is this artificial habitat build.
To sign up as a volunteer for this artificial habitat build please go to: Volunteer Here or call Bass Unlimited Foundation at (812) 814-4659.
